A Season Finale on the Grand Prix Circuit

The Motor Racing Legends Silverstone GP meeting on 17–18 October brought the curtain down on the 2026 historic racing season, and MCR Racing arrived with three cars across two of the weekend’s headline grids. Connor Kay and James Hughes both lined up in Lotus Elans for the Royal Automobile Club Pall Mall Cup, while Dominic Mooney and his daughter Jessica returned to the Generations Trophy in the team’s MGB.

With the Pall Mall Cup running as a two-hour enduro on the full Silverstone Grand Prix layout, it was always going to be a test of pace, consistency and preparation. All three cars delivered.

Connor Kay: Second Overall and a Class Win by 0.4 Seconds

Connor qualified the white Lotus Elan third and was right in the fight from the start. As the race developed, it came down to a long, hard-fought battle with the Jaguar E-Type of polesitter Lukas Halusa.

The E-Type closed in hard over the final stint, but Connor kept the Elan ahead to the flag, crossing the line just 0.4 seconds clear to take 2nd overall and the class win. Against a grid packed with Cobras, E-Types and some of the quickest Elans in historic racing, it was a superb way to sign off the year.

It also adds to a standout season for Connor, following his class victory in the Pall Mall Cup at Donington and his rise to the top of the Autosport National Rankings. For more from behind the scenes, Connor has shared plenty from the weekend on his Instagram.

James Hughes: A Strong Recovery in the Blue Elan

James’s weekend didn’t start the way he wanted, with a difficult qualifying session leaving him further down the order than his pace deserved. He got his head down, got the blue Elan back on terms and produced a very strong second race, working his way through the field to finish 9th overall and 5th in class in the Pall Mall Cup.

In a field this competitive, turning a tricky qualifying into a top-ten finish says a lot about both the driver and the car.

Generations Trophy: Fastest Lap, Gravel and a Family Finish

One year on from their Generations Trophy debut, Jess and Dom were back in the MGB for one of the most popular races on the Motor Racing Legends calendar, where every entry pairs two drivers from the same family.

The pair qualified around halfway up the grid and 3rd in class. Jess took the opening stint and was straight into a three-way battle with two other MGBs, pushing hard and setting her fastest ever lap in the car. On the following lap she found the limit and went into the gravel, costing the team two laps.

Dom took over at the driver change and brought the MGB home to complete the race. It wasn’t the result the pace deserved, but a personal best lap and a hard-fought finish made it a proud weekend for the Mooney family and the whole MCR team.

Preparation That Delivers on the Biggest Grids

A podium finish in the Pall Mall Cup, a recovery drive into the top ten and a family pairing setting new personal bests: none of it happens without careful car preparation, reliable engine building and dependable race support on the day.
